Äitien äänin – Kerronnallinen toimijuus äitien kirjallisuusterapeuttisissa vertaisryhmissä

Narrative agency in mothers’ bibliotherapeutic peer groups

Väitöskirjassa tutkitaan kirjallisuusterapeuttisen menetelmän mahdollisuuksia äitien kerronnallisen toimijuuden ja hyvinvoinnin vahvistamisessa. Suomessa merkittävä osa synnyttäneistä vanhemmista kokee vauvavuoden aikana masennusta ja yksinäisyyttä (THL, FinLapset 2020), ja suomalaiset vanhemmat kuuluvat maailman uupuneimpiin (Roskam ym. 2021; Aunola ym. 2020). Syitä on etsitty yksilökeskeisestä kulttuurista ja äitiyteen kohdistuvista kulttuurisista odotuksista. Partanen tutkii, voiko äitien kirjallisuusterapeuttisissa vertaisryhmissä syntyä kerronnallista toimijuutta, joka haastaa kulttuuriset odotukset. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on avata kulttuurista tilaa äitien omaehtoisemman äänen mahdollisuuksille ja osallistua lasten ja lapsiperheiden hyvinvoinnista käytävään keskusteluun vanhemmuuden hyvinvoinnin näkökulmasta.

The doctoral dissertation explores the potential of a bibliotherapeutic method to strengthen mothers’ narrative agency and wellbeing. In Finland, a significant proportion of birthing parents experience depression and loneliness during their baby’s first year (THL, FinLapset 2020), and Finnish parents rank among the most exhausted in the world (Roskam et al. 2021; Aunola et al. 2020). These tendencies have been associated with the individualistic orientation of contemporary culture and the normative expectations attached to motherhood. By applying the theory of narrative agency to the psychoanalytic concept of a women’s house of language, Partanen aims to develop a bibliotherapeutic narrative agency support model for mothers and sketch one possible construction plan for a mothers’ own house of language. The aim of the study is to open up cultural space for more self-directed maternal voices and to contribute to public discussions on the wellbeing of children and families from the perspective of parental lived experience.
